Ink Wash looks like a brush drawing: circles and arcs in amber gold and ivory on a deep charcoal ground, with soft edges as if the ink has bled into paper. It is hand-knotted at 100 knots per square inch in wool, with silk used for the gold so that it glows against the matt charcoal. The dark ground hides wear and gives a pale room a strong anchor. It suits a modern living room, a bedroom or a dining room. The 8 × 10 ft size is made to order and ships in about seven weeks; the 5 × 8 ft and the 8 ft round are in stock.
Knotted in Kathmandu with the Tibetan loop knot. The soft edges are made by blending two colours of yarn in the same knot for a few rows, a technique the valley's weavers use to turn a painting into a rug, and the silk is spun by hand so its thickness matches the wool.

Hand-knotted rugs are made one at a time, so the size, the colour and the edges can differ slightly from the photographs. That is the mark of the hand, not a fault.
Crafted by the weavers of Kathmandu
Rug weaving in the Kathmandu valley grew from the Tibetan weavers who settled there in the 1960s. Rugs are knotted with the Tibetan loop technique in Himalayan wool, which is rich in lanolin and soft underfoot, and the valley is known for modern designs, stripes and tonal washes.
