Hand-tufted
Wool pushed through a backing with a tufting tool, then sheared to an even pile.
Jaipur Jaali takes the pierced stone screens, or jaalis, of Rajasthani palaces as its starting point: an ivory field framed by a border of faded rose flowers and sage-green leaves, with a lattice so pale it shows mostly as texture. A vintage wash softens the whole rug, so the pattern looks gently worn from the first day. It is hand-tufted in wool with a low, even pile that feels smooth under bare feet. The light palette suits bedrooms and living rooms with white or pale walls and natural wood. Sizes run from 4 × 6 ft to 8 × 10 ft.
Tufted near Jaipur and then washed and lightly sheared to give the vintage look. The rose is dyed a shade stronger than the finished rug needs, because the wash lifts it by about a third, and each rug is checked against a finished sample so the fade is the same from one order to the next.

Jaipur has made rugs since the nineteenth century, when carpet workshops were set up in the city's jail. The villages around it now knot heavy village designs and weave cotton dhurries on pit looms, and the town's dyers and finishing yards give rugs their strong colours or their softened, washed look.
