A Mughal hunting scene in silk: riders on horseback, deer, lions and birds moving through a flowering landscape in red, gold and navy, all within a border of cartouches. At 400 knots per square inch, the figures have faces, bridles and the markings on each animal. It is a rug to hang or to lay where it is seen whole, such as a study, a formal room or the wall behind a sofa, and it comes in 3 × 5, 4 × 6 and 5 × 8 ft. Pure silk shifts in tone as the light moves, so the scene looks different in the morning and the evening.
Woven in Kashmir by a small group of master weavers who take on pictorial silk commissions. Figurative drawings need a new talim for every rug, written out knot by knot from the original painting, and they are the hardest pieces for the valley's weavers to make.

Every hand-knotted rug comes with a certificate of authenticity that records its design, size, materials, where it was woven and its knot count: 400 knots per square inch.
Hand-knotted rugs are made one at a time, so the size, the colour and the edges can differ slightly from the photographs. That is the mark of the hand, not a fault.
Crafted by the weavers of Kashmir
In Kashmir a carpet design is written as talim, a coded script of colours and knot counts that the head weaver calls out at the loom. The valley is known for silk and wool-and-silk rugs with very fine knotting, made mostly in homes around Srinagar through the long winters.
