What the weave is, what it's made of and where it came from.
Flat-woven
Woven flat on a loom: no pile, and reversible, so it can be turned over to spread the wear.
Jaisalmer Dhurrie is a flat-woven cotton rug with rows of diamonds and zigzags in crimson, mustard gold and charcoal, the colours of the desert town it is named after. Cotton dhurries are light, reversible and easy to wash, which is why they have long been the everyday rug of Indian homes. This one lies flat under a bed or a sofa and can be taken outside and shaken clean. It is a practical choice for a living room, a bedroom or a covered veranda, and one of the most-ordered rugs in the collection. Sizes run from 3 × 5 ft to 6 × 9 ft.
Woven near Jaipur on pit looms, where the weaver sits with their legs in a shallow pit below the loom to work the treadles. Dhurrie weaving is a family trade across Rajasthan, and the cotton is dyed in small village dye houses before it is warped and woven in narrow widths.

Jaipur has made rugs since the nineteenth century, when carpet workshops were set up in the city's jail. The villages around it now knot heavy village designs and weave cotton dhurries on pit looms, and the town's dyers and finishing yards give rugs their strong colours or their softened, washed look.

Light enough to take outside and shake, and small spills sponge out easily. The colours are bright and cheerful.

Lovely dhurrie. It slides on our tiled floor, so we added a rug pad. The mustard is warmer than the photo, which we like.

They handle the monsoon humidity better than our old synthetic rugs and dry quickly.
