What the weave is, what it's made of and where it came from.
Flat-woven
Woven flat on a loom: no pile, and reversible, so it can be turned over to spread the wear.
Kilim Hallway Runner is a flat-woven wool runner with brick-red and charcoal diamonds on an ivory ground. It is light, reversible and lies flat, so it never catches the bottom of a door, and it is easy to take outside and shake or to vacuum on both sides. The charcoal outlines keep the pattern crisp even when the ivory picks up a little dust. It suits halls, landings and galley kitchens, and it comes in four lengths from 2½ × 6 ft to 2½ × 12 ft, the widest choice of lengths in the collection.
Woven near Jaipur on narrow handlooms. Kilim weavers work each colour in its own section of the row, which gives the diamonds a sharp outline, and the ends of the runner are finished with a braided fringe that holds the weft in place and keeps the rug from unravelling with use.

Jaipur has made rugs since the nineteenth century, when carpet workshops were set up in the city's jail. The villages around it now knot heavy village designs and weave cotton dhurries on pit looms, and the town's dyers and finishing yards give rugs their strong colours or their softened, washed look.
