Oushak Faded Sage

Oushak Faded Sage is the softest of the Turkish rugs: a large amber-gold medallion on an ivory field, with navy outlines and faded sage-green leaves in the border that give the rug its name. Oushak rugs are known for loose, generous drawing and muted colours, and this one is knotted at 60 knots per square inch with a thick wool pile that feels plush underfoot. The palette sits well with linen, oak and pale plaster, which makes it a common choice for living rooms and bedrooms that want a traditional rug without strong red. It comes in sizes from 5 × 8 ft to 9 × 12 ft.

Woven in Uşak in western Turkey, a town whose weavers made large carpets for Ottoman palaces and European houses for five centuries. The wool comes from Anatolian sheep, and the rug is washed several times after cutting to soften the colours into the faded tones Oushak rugs are known for.

Hand-knotted rugs are made one at a time, so the size, the colour and the edges can differ slightly from the photographs. That is the mark of the hand, not a fault.
