A weaver reads the design off squared paper where one square is one knot. The square below is one square inch of this rug, drawn at its real density.
50knots per square inchVillage weave
Konya Tribal is a bold central Anatolian design: a stepped medallion in coral rust on a dark navy field, with hooked gold motifs in the corners and a border of zigzags. At 50 knots per square inch the knotting is intentionally coarse, and the long, lustrous wool pile makes the colours glow. It is a rug with character for a living room or a bedroom with simple furniture, and the 2½ × 10 ft runner brings the same pattern into a corridor.
Woven in the villages around Konya, the old Seljuk capital in central Anatolia. Village rugs like this are often knotted from memory rather than a drawn cartoon, so small changes in the motifs from one rug to the next are normal and part of the style.

Every hand-knotted rug comes with a certificate of authenticity that records its design, size, materials, where it was woven and its knot count: 50 knots per square inch.
Hand-knotted rugs are made one at a time, so the size, the colour and the edges can differ slightly from the photographs. That is the mark of the hand, not a fault.

Konya, the old Seljuk capital on the Anatolian plateau, and the villages around it have woven kilims and pile rugs for centuries. Designs are often passed down within families and woven from memory, with bold colours and stepped, hooked motifs.
