Ornamental Lotto Ember

Ornamental Lotto Ember has an ember-red field with a yellow-gold lattice of arabesques outlined in indigo, the design that appears in Renaissance paintings by Lorenzo Lotto. The lattice repeats evenly across the rug, so it sits well under furniture in any arrangement. It is hand-knotted at 90 knots per square inch in wool, with a medium pile that is comfortable underfoot. The warm red and gold suit a living room, a bedroom or a dining room with dark wood. It comes in 5 × 8, 6 × 9 and 8 × 10 ft.

Woven in Uşak in western Turkey, where carpets with this lattice were made in the sixteenth century and shipped to Europe, which is how they came to be painted. The weavers knot the lattice from a short repeat and keep the yellow outlines one knot wide throughout.

Every hand-knotted rug comes with a certificate of authenticity that records its design, size, materials, where it was woven and its knot count: 90 knots per square inch.

Hand-knotted rugs are made one at a time, so the size, the colour and the edges can differ slightly from the photographs. That is the mark of the hand, not a fault.
