Sivas Garden

Sivas Garden sets a brick-red medallion on an indigo field and frames both with a wide ivory border of stylised flowers and leaves. The layout follows the court medallion carpets of central Anatolia, with the drawing simplified just enough to read clearly at room scale, so the medallion holds its shape even when a coffee table covers part of it. It is knotted at 90 knots per square inch in wool and clipped to a medium pile, a good middle ground between softness and durability. The deep colours suit a dining room or a living room with dark wood furniture and warm lighting. It comes in 5 × 8, 6 × 9 and 8 × 10 ft.

Woven in Sivas, a city on the high plateau of central Anatolia where carpet weaving has long been a household trade. The weavers use the Turkish symmetric knot on wool warps, which gives the rug a firm, heavy handle, and they finish each end with a flat-woven band before knotting the fringe.

Every hand-knotted rug comes with a certificate of authenticity that records its design, size, materials, where it was woven and its knot count: 90 knots per square inch.

Hand-knotted rugs are made one at a time, so the size, the colour and the edges can differ slightly from the photographs. That is the mark of the hand, not a fault.
