A weaver reads the design off squared paper where one square is one knot. The square below is one square inch of this rug, drawn at its real density.

Indo-Persian Medallion Runner has a line of crimson and ivory medallions along a narrow field, linked by moss-green vines, inside a floral border. Indo-Persian means a Persian design knotted in India. It is hand-knotted at 140 knots per square inch in wool, fine enough to keep the detail of each medallion over a long, narrow format. It is one of the most-ordered runners in the collection and suits a hallway, a landing or the space along a bed. It comes in 2½ × 8, 2½ × 10 and 2½ × 12 ft.
Knotted in Bhadohi on a loom built for runners, where Indo-Persian designs have been woven for well over a century. Each medallion is counted from the same section of the cartoon, and the weaver measures the spacing between them at every repeat so they sit evenly along the full length.

Every hand-knotted rug comes with a certificate of authenticity that records its design, size, materials, where it was woven and its knot count: 140 knots per square inch.
Hand-knotted rugs are made one at a time, so the size, the colour and the edges can differ slightly from the photographs. That is the mark of the hand, not a fault.

Bhadohi and neighbouring Mirzapur, on the Ganges plain between Varanasi and Prayagraj, form India's largest hand-knotting region, and the Bhadohi hand-made carpet carries a geographical indication. Most rugs are knotted in weaving families' homes on upright looms, then brought to town to be washed, clipped and finished.

The 12 ft runner fits our corridor with a little floor showing at each end. Fine detail and a firm, heavy pile.

Most runners I looked at were coarse. This has proper detail in every medallion and the green is lovely.

Two 8 ft runners, one on each landing. Same colours, same quality, and both arrived together.
