A weaver reads the design off squared paper where one square is one knot. The square below is one square inch of this rug, drawn at its real density.
120knots per square inchFine
Palm & Ibex Runner has a row of date palms with ibex standing between them, drawn in salmon pink, ivory and olive green, a pictorial design with a light, storybook feel. It is hand-knotted at 120 knots per square inch in wool, fine enough for the curve of each horn and palm frond. It is a playful runner for a hallway, a landing or an entrance, and the pale ground keeps a narrow space bright. It comes in 2½ × 8, 2½ × 10 and 2½ × 12 ft.
Knotted near Jaipur to a pictorial design. The ibex and palms are drawn in full on the cartoon, animal by animal, and the weavers change the direction of the ibex from one pair to the next so the runner reads as a procession rather than a single repeated stamp.

Every hand-knotted rug comes with a certificate of authenticity that records its design, size, materials, where it was woven and its knot count: 120 knots per square inch.
Hand-knotted rugs are made one at a time, so the size, the colour and the edges can differ slightly from the photographs. That is the mark of the hand, not a fault.

Jaipur has made rugs since the nineteenth century, when carpet workshops were set up in the city's jail. The villages around it now knot heavy village designs and weave cotton dhurries on pit looms, and the town's dyers and finishing yards give rugs their strong colours or their softened, washed look.
